For Carolina Mushroom Farm Mushroom Kits

Congratulations on your new Carolina Mushroom Farm Mushroom Kit! With proper care and the right environment, you’ll soon be harvesting fresh, delicious mushrooms right at home. Follow this simple guide to ensure a successful and bountiful mushroom-growing experience.

Getting Started

Oyster mushrooms thrive in specific conditions, so selecting the right location, temperature, and environment is key to success. Here’s what you need to know before you begin:

1. Location

  • Choose a shaded area with indirect sunlight or dim lighting—direct light can dry out the grow bag.
  • Ensure good airflow in the room but avoid strong drafts from fans, vents, or windows.
  • A kitchen, garage, basement, or closet can be a great spot, as long as there is some ventilation.

2. Temperature

  • Ideal growing temperatures range from 55°F – 75°F (13°C – 24°C).
  • Avoid extreme temperature changes—keep the bag away from heaters, air conditioners, or direct heat sources.
  • Consistent moderate temperatures will encourage strong, healthy growth.

3. Environment

  • Humidity is crucial—aim for 80%-90% humidity to keep the mushrooms from drying out.
  • Lightly mist the bag 2-3 times per day with clean water to maintain moisture.
  • If your environment is too dry, create a humidity tent by loosely placing a plastic bag over the kit with ventilation holes to trap moisture while allowing airflow.

How to Start Growing

Step 1: Prepare the Bag

  • Locate the pre-cut slits or cut small “X” marks (about 2 inches) on the bag where mushrooms will sprout.
  • Do not remove the mushrooms from the bag—they need the substrate inside to grow properly.

Step 2: Activate Growth

  • Place your bag in the chosen location with proper airflow and humidity.
  • Mist the bag at least twice a day using clean, non-chlorinated water.
  • Within 7-14 days, you’ll start to see small pin-like mushrooms forming—this is the beginning of your harvest!

Step 3: Harvesting Your Mushrooms

  • Once the mushrooms reach 3-5 inches in size, they are ready to harvest!
  • Gently twist and pull the cluster from the base—do not cut them, as this can leave behind material that may mold.
  • After harvesting, continue misting, and you may get multiple flushes (harvests) from one kit!

Troubleshooting Tips

  • Mushrooms are slow to grow? Check temperature and moisture—if it’s too dry or too cold, adjust accordingly.
  • Mushrooms look deformed or small? Increase airflow and humidity for better formation.
  • White fuzz on mushrooms? This is mycelium and is normal! Just increase fresh air circulation.

Enjoy Your Homegrown Mushrooms!

Your mushroom kit is designed to keep producing multiple flushes if properly maintained. Once the mushrooms stop growing, you can use the leftover substrate as compost in your garden to enrich the soil.
